My first experience with Great Wall was confusion simply trying to find the door. Once I found which of the several doors in front was the entrance I went inside and found a deserted dining room and a bar with a few patrons. A quick look at the menu and I ordered several dishes to go. My overall impression of the food was that it was unimpressive. It was typical of what you would have expected from a Chinese-American restaurant 30 years ago. The dishes were heavily sauced, almost stew-like in ratio of sauce to ingredients, and vegetables had little texture left to them. As for flavor, the three dishes I sampled (beef, pork and duck) all tasted much the same. They lacked vibrancy and distinctiveness. Perhaps it was my choices, but I deliberately tried to select things that should have had wildly different textures and flavors. They didn't. They weren't necessarily bad, but they weren't much of anything else. It was a wholly forgettable experience. This is a place I had been wanting to try for some time, and I can say with confidence that I don't expect to return.

The Great Wall is a Great find out in the SW suburbs. It is a rather small place but it has a a very cozy dining room. Most of the business there during the week is take-out and the dining room is always empty. The weekends can get a little buy but there is never a wait for a table. This is a good place to take a date as even when the dining room is full the noise level is rather subdued. The food is very good and the portions that you get are incredible for the price. The best values are their family meals. They have specials for parties of two, three, four, six and eight. Realistically you can feed more than they suggest so there will always be leftovers for the next day. These specials are by far the best value but everything on the menu is reasonably priced.

What happened to you in my absence, Great Wall? The food and drink I once loved so much, had disappeared. I was looking forward to going to my old haunt for some good Chinese. Even though the sit-in area of the restaurant was nearly empty, our service was spotty. It took a while to get water and an extra cup for tea. Our order was rather simple, a meal for four. It came with wonton soup, egg rolls, sweet and sour chicken, Mongolian beef, Hong Kong steak, and pork fried rice. The egg rolls, once huge, are now down to the size of the ones you can buy in the frozen section at the grocery store. The sweet and sour chicken tasted, by far the best, even though there were very few peppers floating around in the sauce. The Mongolian beef and Hong Kong Steak were the chewiest and saltiest dishes I have ever tried to eat. It is rare that we, as a family have leftovers. So you know it's bad when so much of it remained untouched. After about five minutes of eating, we realize that our pork fried rice was missing. Instead of waiting for our server to come over, we just forgot about it; after everything else being so salty, no reason for that dish to be anything different. I ordered a flying dragon as a drink, and if you look at the previous review, you can hear how sweet and tasty these drinks were supposed to be. Well, I can tell you, whatever I had, it was not a flying dragon. It was not a bright red in color, nor was it sweet. It was a bitter drink, and greenish in color. Very upsetting. I don't want to end the relationship with this place on such a bad note. But after this experience, I don't want to have to go through with that again.

Food quality - VERY POOR. We ordered take-out and dine in here several times. Recently, food quality has deteriorated. Chicken fried rice had so much soy sauce in it, the rice was super dark brown. Very few chicken in it. No vegetables in the fried rice at all. We also ordered shrimp cashew. There were 5 pieces of shrimp in a brown broth. The food had a bitter after-taste. Price - Average entrée is about $6. For the very poor quality of food, I would not pay that much. I refuse to pay anything at all. This will be the last time we will go to this restaurant. Cleanliness - AVERAGE. Clean enough for dine in experience. There's a bar adjacent to the dining area but I haven't been there. Accuracy of take-out order - VERY POOR. We ordered shrimp almond and got chicken almond instead. I notified the lady the 2nd time I came in of the mistake and there was no attempt to correct the mistake or apologize for the mistake. NEVER AGAIN.

My husband and I have been going to Great Wall for at least 15 years and wanted to finally share our thoughts about it. If you are looking for a restaurant serving Chinese food in a clean, pleasant and relaxing environment in the SW suburbs, with a wide selection of food choices, this is the place to go. The food is very reasonably priced and the portions are generous. We have never had a bad or disappointing meal in all that time. The owners/operators are always friendly and accommodating. We love the restaurant primarily for their take-out menu, but have also enjoyed their dine-in experience. We order food from Great Wall quite often, and just wanted to share our view with everyone else. Give it a try!

All I can say is that I absolutely love this establishment. Shirley is so sweet and kind and the food is amazing. The Mongolian beef is probably the best I've ever had and I've been all over the world. Great tvs to watch a game and hideaway. Another thing I really appreciate about this venue is how extremely clean the bathrooms and the bar is. Hard to find I consider this place a diamond in the rough. Added plus it's a stone throw away from chicago ridge mall. Highly recommend

Had a craving for beef and broccoli so my friend and I came here to eat. They have a huge parking lot and are handicap accessible. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and is very roomy. The food was delicious and the service was prompt. I will definitely dine here again.

This was the first time I ordered from this place and it will be my last! I ordered the Mongolian beef and it was the worst I ever had! No taste and the sauce tasted like they just added water to make a bigger portion. So disappointing..... I definitely recommend Jade Palace across the street.

Never again. Food quality is not even worth the reasonable prices. Very disappointed with mysterious egg rolls, chewy un-swalloable chicken and heavily soy sauced non veggie filled fried rice. Definitely room for improvement here.

They do have big egg rolls. But they are full of crap. I couldn't eat the whole thing once I saw what was inside. The sweet and sour was o.k. I have had much better. The chicken fried rice had everything you could imagine in it. I saw b-bq pork, beef. But thank god nothing was moving. Because everthing was over cooked. The beef and broccoli was heavy on the sauce and very salty. The atmosphere is early yard sale. Quite run down and depressing. This is a great place. If you have never eaten chinese food before and live a block away with your only mode of transportation being a bicycle.

Going down the drain Chinese food. This used to be my family's go-to for Chinese food about 10 years ago. Until, one day they screwed our order up and the lady was very rude and told my mom to never come back again..... That's fine because we found Jade Palace. Suckas! Anyway, I've gone back recently and their food is just mediocre compared to all the other options.

This place is soo nastyy. Cold food eggrolls suck the lady (owner) is a freakin nut. Called the cops on me because they messed up our order and made us come back for thiis lady to goo nutss gave us old cold sweet and sour chicken. This place is bad and unprofessional. I SUGGEST YOU DON'T GO THERE
